Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do AVA Waterless products work and why do they not scratch the paint surface of the car?

  1.  Dirt particles are liquefied and encapsulated by special premium grade polymers on contact and are gently ‘lifted and suspended’ away from the surface preventing them from revisiting the surface of the paintwork.
  2.  The encapsulated dirt is then trapped by the microscopic fibers of the Microfiber cloth.
  3.  AVA Carnauba+Nano Shield formulation also contains Nano and Carnauba waxes which seal the vehicles base metal and wax coats the paint surface at the same time for double protection; repelling water, making the surface super slick, shiny and giving anti-static protective qualities. This helps to prevent dust being attracted to the surface keeping the surfaces cleaner and shinier for much longer than old style traditional washing.

AVA Waterless products most definitely do NOT scratch the paint surface or any other surface they come into contact with and like with any vehicle washing it is just a matter of technique in using the correct application methods together with a quality microfiber cloth, the product itself will not scratch the car. A very simple and efficient process using two quality microfiber cloths, you simply spray AVA Clean and Wax Waterless Car Wash onto one folded cloth and onto a panel of the vehicle, gently wipe with leading cloth and quickly buff using second cloth to a brilliant instant mirror gloss shine, repeating the process until the whole car is not only clean but also highly polished and shiny. The only time water is ever required is if the vehicle has thick mud or sand stuck to the skirts which can be simply rinsed or steamed off (1L of water produces 2 hours’ worth of steam) from that specific localised area before continuing the all-in-one clean and polishing process by applying the waterless product.

Consider the waterless benefits over the implications of conventional washing methods using buckets of soapy suds splashing everywhere and potentially concealing a dirty sponge, rinsing with gallons of water and then using a microfiber cloth and chamois leather having to revisit the same area of the car many times and therefore definitely increasing the likelihood of scratching the paint surface. Many times, we have seen evidence of the high-pressure water from hot water blistering paintwork and hand-held lances accidentally chipping and scratching paintwork.

Q: Can the product be used in hot and cold climates?

 Hot climates

AVA Waterless products can be applied in hot direct sunlight however for optimum application conditions we recommend applying the product either in a shaded area or inside a garage or showroom. When applying in direct sunlight spray a little more onto vehicle surface as this will allow for the additional evaporation caused through bodywork panel heat and also into the cloth first so it is slightly damp, as this prevents quick drying due to the vehicle body heat absorbing the product.

 Cold climates

AVA Waterless products can be applied in cold temperatures but in minus temperatures you may experience some streaking. This is because the product becomes less viscous on an ice-cold surface after the first part of the cleaning process however can be quickly and easily resolved. Simply buff the area gently until the product has completely dried. Use more than one Microfiber cloth to dry if necessary. Remember AVA Eco-friendly products contain no hazardous solvents and so ensure to protect products from freezing by storing in ambient conditions in sealed containers.

Q: Can the product be used in on a wet surface?

Yes, as ll our world class formulations are water based and contain absolutely no hazardous ingredients, no solvents which enables the user to efficiently and effectively use on wet vehicle surfaces without any detrimental effect to the finish. Just remember to carry more Microfiber cloths for the final dry buff to that all important and beautiful showroom shine.

Q: Are waterless car wash products bad for the environment?

Definitely NOT as all AVA waterless products contain no hazardous ingredients unlike those contained in most conventional style products such as petroleum, acids, solvents etc. which all have environmental impact and in addition there is no run-off from waterless washing as there is no rinsing involved unlike the thousands of gallons of contaminated waste water that potentially goes directly into water ways when using traditional bucket-and-hose method washes. AVA waterless products also contain No Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) making them extremely user, vehicle and environmentally friendly.

Q:  Do waterless car wash products clean as well as using conventional shampoo and water?

They work even better as the special ingredients contained in AVA waterless scratch-free formulations liquefy and break down dirt on the surface of the car, which is then easily wiped away and then buffed with a microfiber cloth to create instant shine. Not only that but waterless car wash products add an extra layer of protection against dust, grime and dirt from the road, keeping the car cleaner and shinier for longer.

Q: How many vehicles will AVA Waterless clean?

1L of AVA Clean and Wax or AVA Carnauba+Nano Shield will clean and highly polish to premium showroom standard approximately 6-8 averaged sized vehicles. However, it all depends on what size of vehicle is being cleaned and how dirty it is, but on average 100 -160ml will do a whole standard saloon exterior which through regular use becomes easier and the surface shinier with protective layers. Super concentrates are available in 25L drums, 205L and 1000L containers where 25L of product when diluted will make 250L of ready to use product and will clean, highly polish and protect up to 2000 cars.

Q: Where can I use AVA Waterless Car Wash Products?

You can use them absolutely anywhere and everywhere you choose; indoors, outdoors and even in direct sunlight or wet conditions and on all types of cars, motorbikes, trucks, coaches, trains, yachts, boats, planes, pedal cycles, any surface that you can possibly imaging as AVA Waterless products will clean and deliver a highly polished finish where required. Unlike other products on the market AVA Premium Waterless Car Wash products & Eco-Friendly Detailing range contain absolutely no harmful solvents, petroleum’s, acids or toxic chemicals. All our products are reliably uniquely and equally friendly to the user, vehicle and environment.

AVA Carnauba+Nano Sheild, Clean & Wax and AVA Tyre Shine do contain gentle non-volatile silicone which should be considered as in general terms silicone is not recommended for body shop environments as they involve spray application which could potentially affect paint from drying on freshly sprayed bodywork surfaces without the user being aware. To confirm once paint is dry all products can without question be safely used on paint surfaces with outstanding effect.

Q:  Are silicone products dangerous or harmful to the environment?

Definitely NOT and may we reassure you that the silicone we use in our formulations are totally non-hazardous and equally safe for the user, vehicle and environment and in fact the gentle ones we use are contained within everyday use cosmetic products such as face creams.

AVA Carnauba+Nano ShieldClean & Wax and AVA Tyre Shine do contain silicone as within our range of world leading waterless car wash & detailing products it is essential to include silicone within certain formulations in order to achieve the overriding specific function to deliver the level of showroom shine and longevity required for customer ‘The Wow Factor!’ experience and satisfaction, without silicone inclusion the level of premium performance just would not deliver the same quality of finish. We pride ourselves on the outstanding Durability, Lustre and Beauty of finish that our products always produce on every single vehicle they come into contact with and deliver unrivalled customer satisfaction.

May we take this opportunity to further explain that Universal Cleaner can, without question and with outstanding effect, be safely used in the body shop environment as contains no silicone.

AVA Interior/Exterior Cleaner has a specific function in our waterless system as a multi-purpose interior and exterior cleaner for all soft and hard surfaces with outstanding additional robust capabilities for removing stubborn substances such as brake dust, dead insects, bird lime, etc., from various vehicle surfaces. Whilst Universal leaves a completely clean and revitalised surface, due to the fact there is no silicone content it will not deliver the same level of shine required for external paintwork in today’s automotive and marine markets. However, for body shops where sanding dust etc. is generally only a requirement to be removed Universal Cleaner fits the brief perfectly.

In our experience once the vehicle paint has dried the body shop will generally wipe down with Universal and pass on the sprayed vehicle to a different department for valeting, as they understand that to achieve the level paintwork shine necessary for customer total satisfaction requires silicone content and so the final valet is carried out away from direct vicinity of the paint spray area.

To confirm all AVA Waterless Car Wash & Eco Car Care Detailing products are classed as ‘leave on products’ which basically means that nothing goes to ground; no effluents, dirt, chemicals, oils, etc. as they are all captured in the Microfiber cloths and not rinsed off using vast amounts of water which then uncontrollably go to ground and potentially enter the water table drainage system. Therefore, AVA Waterless Car Wash products are not classified within detergents regulations and therefore biodegradability is Not a question for concern.

Q: What type of cloths should be used with AVA Waterless Car Wash Products?

Only use a high quality Microfiber Cloth with AVA Waterless Car Wash & Detailing products like our Clean & Wax microfiber cloths which are 40 x 40 cm and 380 GSM, as the microscopic fibers contained in the ultra-absorbent weave in the cloth captures and traps the dirt lifting it safely from the vehicle. We recommend using 2 folded Microfiber cloths per vehicle wash and polish, one to lift the dirt away and another to buff and polish. Folded cloths in half and half again give you many clean surfaces to work with from each cloth however you may need more than two cloths for particularly dirty or wet vehicles, especially if they are covered in salt during winter. AVA Microfiber Cloths are the commercially proven as they absorb higher amounts of water with a thicker and softer weave than normal cloth towels to impart that Clean & Wax showroom finish.

Q: Can I wash the Microfiber cloths and why is it considered waterless if you have to clean the microfiber cloths in water?

Yes, once the cloths become too soiled and wash after each full use. Machine wash on a low temperature (30 degrees) or hand wash with washing powder. Do not use a fabric softener as this can damage the cloth. AVA Microfiber Cloths can be washed time and time again without interfering with the quality of weave.

‘Waterless’ is commonly mistaken to mean that water is completely eliminated from the cleaning process altogether, which is an unrealistic expectation. Waterless products greatly reduce the amount of water used per wash and microfiber cloths can be simply machine washed as you would with dirty overalls, the dirt is collected in the machines filter system and the waste water is controlled through the household drainage system and so directed to the relevant water treatment plant.

Q: Are waterless products more expensive than soap and water?

Waterless car wash products can be used in more than just surface cleaning as not only do they clean but highly polish and wax protect all in one with the simple process of spray, wipe and buff panel at a time until all the vehicle is complete; saving you money on car care products as well. Whereas conventional washing involves using many different products and revisiting the same area of the car many times over to rinse, shampoo, rinse again, chamois leather and then wait for paintwork to dry before you can even consider applying any wax.

Further considerations:

It it is very important to mention at this time that by law, commercial operations have to ensure that none of their waste water is going where it should not. So hazardous products such as thinners, coolants, effluents, vehicle-cleaning detergents and oily waste water, etc. must firstly be treated before entering the sewer system.

Therefore, the Automotive Industry in compliance with The Environmental Protective Agency have imposed certain guidelines for commercial operations that have to be stringently adhered to or face strict action if they are found to be non-compliant:

  • They must have a sediment tank or a silt trap when draining workshop floor; and an oil separation system for any oily or greasy waste water to prevent effluents directly entering the drains.

  • They must clearly mark all storm water drains as only rainwater should be allowed to enter them and must direct all waste water to the sewerage system for correct treatment.

  • They must store all chemicals and contaminated components (oil, brake fluid, battery acid, coolant etc.) in sealed and leak-free containers or bins, making sure they are all undercover and clearly marked.

Certain waste liquids are classified as “traceable”, which means they require special monitoring and reporting with special disposal procedures. These include oils, transmission fluids, batteries, solvents, paint waste and oil and fuel filters, unless flushed and drained of oil. Traceable liquid wastes must be collected and disposed of by a licensed contractor for recycling or reuse.
